ABOUT THE POSITION 

The Concept Artist (NOC 52120) will be required to dream big and then execute with strong fundamental based abilities to present their artistic vision. The incumbent will create both clear and concise production concept art for characters, the world and the other assets for Digital Extremes’ games. The incumbent will possess exceptional communication skills in written, visual and verbal forms, and excellent knowledge of the video game industry.  Strong ability to take constructive criticism while selling your ideas is critical. Giving direction will be as important as taking it and you must be able to drive implementation of your ideas. We need a team player who values the best ideas regardless of where they come from to create a clear picture of how they fit in the larger vision of the game. An ideal candidate will also be able to provide examples of your design work and communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Create original and imaginative concept art for characters, the world and other assets that will inspire the team and help set the tone, look and feel of the games.
  • Effectively collaborate with other artists to create the architectural design, character design and broader environment design of the games.
  • Work closely with the Art Director, Creative Director and Game Designer to take creative direction as well as reinforce the execution of the game’s visual design.
  • Contribute innovative and original ideas toward all aspects of the game’s production and development.
  • Deliver work on time and according to schedule.
  • Develop creative solutions to achieve the objectives of promotional artwork using limited resources and sometimes unfinished in-game assets.
  • Actively participate in the feedback loop, accepting feedback from, and providing feedback within the marketing team.
  • Multitask effectively, prioritize competing demands, and following through on details.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Minimum three years game industry experience in a Concept Artist level capacity. 
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual arts or a related discipline.  
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strong artistic sensibilities and the ability for a range of styles, including human anatomy, perspective, life drawing, lighting, composition, colour theory, atmosphere, material and textures. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent teamwork skills. 
  • Proven ability to document and communicate design ideas. 
  • Excellent knowledge of the video game industry. 
  • Be a driven individual who has a proven track record of delivering projects on time. 
  • Experience in working with photoshop, Zbrush, and/or Blender.

WAGE 

The wage range for the Concept Artist position is between CAD $65,000 and CAD $80,000 per year, based on work experience and qualifications.
